โฐยนห once upon a time there was a mercenary group founded by the white falcon griffith. they were instrumental in several battles during the hundred-year war, most prominently in retaking the tudor-held fortress of doldrey for midland and ending the century-long conflict. subsequently, the band's commanders were granted nobility. casca, having become the band of the falcon's second most formidable warrior and a forefront unit commander within the band of the falcon early on, was a reputable warrior of the falcon and nearly equal in swordsmanship to griffith. the band of the falcon grew in fame due to their undefeated success on the battlefield before ultimately ending the reign of the hundred year war.as famous as they had grown, the noble life was the not the dream of fellow commander guts, whom casca has now grown affection for. on the morning of guts' departure from the band, casca goes against griffith's challenge of dueling guts for the swordsman's freedom โ a notable deviation from her usual unquestioning adherence to griffith's will. her heart is broken after guts defeats griffith, as she witnesses a disconcerted griffith kneel in defeat and guts decisively leave the band. guts' departure and ultimately free will, unexpectedly compels griffith to impulsively bed princess charlotte of midland, resulting in the white falcon's imprisonment for crimes against the royal family and the labeling of the band of the falcon as outlaws. with the abrupt disappearance of her leader, casca is forced to take leadership of the band when they are attacked by midland's army and driven away.
